Clifton is an exclusive coastal residential area in Cape Town. Clifton’s Fourth Beach has attained the Blue Flag award, in recognition of its environmental, safety and tourist standards. Right next door is Camps Bay, and only 15 minutes up the road is the Cape Town CBD. All Clifton’s four beaches are safe, although the water is not for the fainthearted, generally around 12-15°C (54-59°F).

First Beach is the more peaceful of Clifton’s beaches, with plenty of space to kick a soccer ball or throw a frisbee. Second Beach-goers are more modern and eclectic, and there’s still some nice space to play rugby or volleyball. Third Beach is family-friendly, with a 1756 shipwreck hidden under about 7 metres of water just offshore. Fourth Beach is the most popular beach, with the best facilities for families and others alike. It features public toilets, change rooms, places to buy drinks and snacks, and umbrellas and deck chairs to rent.
